Katahdin Hair Sheep are a strong, adaptable, low maintenance sheep that
produce superior lamb crop. They do not produce fleece, therefore, do not
require sheering. They are medium in size. Ewes have good mothering ability
and lamb easily with no assistance. Lambs are born alert and ready to nurse.
The breed is ideal for pasture lambing. They require minimal parasite
treatment. Their smooth hair coat allows them to tolerate heat and humidity
well. In cold weather, they grow a thick winter coat which they shed in the
summer. A well-managed flock can produce a 200 percent lamb crop.
